Every year on June 8, the world joins in to celebrate World Ocean Day. This global event is dedicated to preserving and appreciating our oceans across the planet, and here at Armony Resort, we’re excited to join in on the celebration in a meaningful and fun way.
World Ocean Day goes back over 30 years, to the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro by two Canadian organizations: the International Centre for Ocean Development (ICOD) and the Ocean Institute of Canada (OIC). They proposed a day to raise awareness about how important the oceans are to our lives and our world, and to promote sustainable practices to protect marine life and their environments. Even so, it wasn’t until 2008 that the United Nations officially recognized June 8 as World Ocean Day.
This day reminds us of how interconnected humans are with the ocean, highlighting issues like overfishing, pollution, and climate change.
World Ocean Day also encourages people to take action in their communities, and nowhere is this more evident than in beachside areas like ours. Across the world, communities celebrate with beach cleanups, educational programs, art competitions, community initiatives, classroom lessons, and more, all designed to create a deeper connection to the ocean and its ecosystems.

In the morning on June 8, Armony guests are invited to participate in a beach cleaning event. All necessary equipment will be provided, and our knowledgeable staff will guide participants through the process.
